My entry into the medical field was through civil service in ambulance and rescue services, followed by a medical degree in Münster with study abroad periods in England and Switzerland, as well as a doctorate in basic research (Institute for Physiology II, University of Münster) on endothelial cells.
My professional advanced training was undertaken at the Surgical University Clinic Marienhospital Herne, the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Interdisciplinary Intensive Care of the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Recklinghausen, the Clinic for Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Urology of the HELIOS Klinikum Krefeld, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Birmingham Children's Hospital (United Kingdom), the Fachklinik Satteldüne for Rehabilitation of Children and Adolescents of the DRV Nord, and the Clinic for General, Visceral, Thoracic, Transplantation, and Paediatric Surgery at the Campus Kiel of the University Clinic Schleswig-Holstein. This led to the qualifications as a specialist in Paediatric Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Sports Medicine, the specialist knowledge of Leading Emergency Doctor and Radiation Protection, as well as Registration/Licensing as a Ship's Doctor and the Certificate of Nutritional Medical Basic Care.
In addition to my professional medical work, I also pursued a degree in business administration (MBA) in the field of Health Management at the state university Wismar and completed a master's thesis on the personnel situation in hospitals.
After nearly three years of senior physician work in paediatric surgery at the HELIOS Klinikum Krefeld, I spent three and a half years at the paediatric surgical university clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum in the Marienhospital Witten (paediatric medical centre of the St. Elisabeth Group - Catholic Clinics Ruhr), of which the last year was as medical lead of the interdisciplinary paediatric outpatient clinic, before the path to private practice followed.
Alongside my clinical or now private practice work, I am active as an emergency doctor and as a lecturer at MFA-/Nursing-/Rescue Schools and Simulation-/Emergency Academies (e.g. of the Helios Group in Krefeld), as well as in medical further education and as Lecturer for Maritime Medicine and Surgery at the City University of Bremen. The textbook for basic emergency technician, which I have published, is currently being revised.
Voluntary activities have had a significant impact on my path, particularly for the German Red Cross (DRK) and the German Life-Saving Society (DLRG). The focus was and is on youth work, broad-based training, emergency services, water rescue, training and leadership, as well as medical care and supervision - currently as doctor of the DLRG local group Unna e.V., district doctor of the DLRG district Hellweg e.V. and deputy state doctor of the DLRG state association Westphalia e.V. (including participation in the working group "Respectful Interaction with Boundaries" and "Psychosocial Emergency Care" (PSNV) as well as in the teaching team Medicine and in the teaching team Water Rescue Service). Furthermore, I was deputy speaker of the working group of paediatric surgical assistants of the German Society for Paediatric Surgery (DGKCH) from 2011-2017 and chairman of the Perspective Forum Young Surgery of the German Society for Surgery (2014-2017). I am a ship's doctor on the Alexander von Humboldt II, member of the Westphalian Sports Doctors' Association, the Working Group of Emergency Doctors in NRW (AGNNW), the Sail Training Association Germany (S.T.A.G.), the Society for Peadiatric Sports Medicine (GPS), and the German Society for Maritime Medicine (DGMM).
